About this book

The various sociologies of life do not interpret life only as the object that is socially standardized, enhanced and recognized. They always see it as a subject of its norms, its knowledge and its changes as well. Life is not one-sided; instead its entanglements are analyzed: the immanence of nature and culture; the concurrence of being active and passive; the co-constitution of affect and cognition; the identity of normativity and standardization. Following authors such as Bataille, Bergson, Canguilhem, Deleuze, Driesch, Plessner, the pragmatists or Simmel, the contributions featured in this book unfold different perspectives on the sociology of life, re-vitalizing a discourse that is instructive for sociological theory in a variety of ways.

Author / Editor information

Heike Delitz (PD Dr. phil.) ist Privatdozentin am Lehrstuhl für Soziologische Theorie der Universität Bamberg und vertritt derzeit die Professur für vergleichende Gesellschaftsforschung an der Universität Bremen. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Soziologische Theorie, Politische und Religionssoziologie sowie Architektursoziologie. Sie erforscht u.a. Imaginationen von Gesellschaft oder kollektiver Identität sowie Gesellschaftseffekte von Architekturen.
Frithjof Nungesser (Dr.) ist Universitätsassistent am Institut für Soziologie der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Sozialtheorie, Soziologiegeschichte, Kultursoziologie, Anthropologie sowie die Soziologie der Gewalt.
Robert Seyfert ist Akademischer Rat auf Zeit am Institut für Soziologie der Universität Duisburg-Essen. Er arbeitet am Schnittpunkt von Sozialtheorie, Kultursoziologie und Science and Technology Studies. Er erforscht Affekte, Algorithmen und Automatisierung.
